Kathmandu: A dozen reservation activists, belonging to various ethnic groups, were arrested on Sunday for agitating outside the Singhdurbar Secretariat here, police said.
The demonstrations were held against the Public Service Commission’s alleged disregard of rules on reservations in the ongoing local government staff recruitment process, which are ensured by the Constitution. The agitators demanded the commission cancel the ongoing recruitment process and call for fresh applications, ensuring proportionate reservation quotas for Dalits, indigenous communities, Madhesis and Muslims.
As the demonstrators headed towards the main entrance of Singhdurbar from Bhadrakali, the police detained Nepal Federation of Indigenous Nationalities vice-president Govinda Chhantyal, leaders Kumar Lingden, Dalmardhan Kami among others. (PTI)
