Shillong: Making good use of glorious blue skies and the school holiday, six Meghalaya Baby League teams from the Eastern Conference of the Shillong centre played out very exciting matches at Third Ground, Polo, here on Monday. Last season’s overall champions Langsning Greenergy Lions and Shillong Lajong Cayotes were involved in early kick-offs, starting at 8:00am, with the Greenergy Lions winning all four of their matches. The U-7 and U-9 games ended 6-0 and 11-0 respectively in Langsning’s favour. The U-11 fixture was a special one, with the Cayotes pulling out a 4-1 lead before the Greenergy Lions stormed back for a 5-4 win. It was another close game in the U-12 category, with Langsning coming through 5-3. Next up came the matches between Mawkhar Roosters and Kickstart FCC Rhinos. Here the Rhinos were victorious in all four games as well, winning 2-1 (U-7 age category), 5-1 (U-9), 2-0 (U-11) and 9-0 (U-12). Finally, Titan Otters and Unified Gorkha Gators went up against each other. These two sides were evenly matched in the U-7 and U-12 categories, with both matches ending in draws. In the other contests the Otters sailed through as 8-0 winners in the U-9 category, while the Gators got the better of their opponents in the U-11 fixture, winning 5-4.
