Shillong: Taking cognizance on the importance of research on medicinal plants with special reference to ayurvedic medicine, the Himalaya Drug Company organised a meeting of Ayurvedic Doctors at Shillong Club in the city on Monday.
The meeting emphasised on the need to protect and preserve medicinal plants in Meghalaya. The meeting which was the first of its kind, was graced with the presence of ayurvedic doctors from across the state.
A number of prominent doctors attended the meeting including Dr. BP Sharma, HOD KC Department, CACH, Guwahati, Dr. Verity Markhap, Dr. Sunita Kharmawphlang from Civil Hospital, Nongpoh, Dr. Druvopam Chakraborty, post manager of scientific services, Dr. Ranjit Choudharay, post zonal manager of the Himalaya Drug Company and Doctor Roselyne Mawlong of Government Ayurvedic College, Guwahati.
A presentation on the importance of medicinal plants research was presented by Dr. BP Sharma while the Himalaya Drug Company highlighted a presentation on malnutrition and its management with their drug ‘Quista Kidz’.
Dr. Sunita Kharmawphlang spoke on the importance of Ayurveda and its practice in Meghalaya while Dr Kharmawplang encouraged the young doctors to be confident in the profession and urged them to maintained a healthy doctor-patient relationship.
Meanwhile, Dr Verity Markhap highlighted on the various indigenous drugs of Meghalaya along with their ayurvedic properties.
The meeting also discussed on various ways to uplift the growth of ayurveda in the state with special importance to plants research and strategies to bring about public awareness.
