SHILLONG: The Election Commission has announced the schedule for special summary revision with reference to January 1, 2020 as qualifying date with an intention to provide accurate electoral rolls.
The chief electoral officer Frederick Roy Khar-kongor said the objective is to prepare accurate electoral rolls and inclusion of all eligibile voters
Removal of dead/shifted /disqualified voters will also be another focus after due procedure is followed and with prior notice to the concerned voters.
The focus of the campaign will be on the newly eligible 18 plus voters and the commission will also enroll PWD voters.
As healthy and error free electoral rolls is the consistent bedrock of the electoral process, the current campaigns will be preceded with the Electoral Verification Programme (EVP). This time in a departure from previous campaigns, an intensive programme for Electors Verification will begin from September 1 to 30.
During this campaign, citizens will be given the opportunity to come forward and proactively authenticate their electors’ details and also details of their family members registered in electoral rolls through the NVSP (National Voters Service Portal), 1950 toll free contact centres and for the very first time through Common Service Centres (CSC).
In this connection, the CEO informed that there are over 600 CSCs all over the state and MOU has already been executed between office of CEO and State Head CSC to facilitate verification of electors’ details through CSC which will facilitate ease of verification of voters without travelling far distances to their respective district head quarters. BLOs will continue to undertake house to house Verification as part of this exercise.
Electors are also encouraged to provide information through “crowd sourcing” and share information through BLOs and also via online medium
EPIC card portability will also be possible which allows an elector to retain unique EPIC card number if they move to another AC. As part of verification process they will need to authenticate their particulars by submission of any of the recognised identity document such as passport, driving licenses,Aadhar, ration cards, Authorized ID cards and others
The tag line of the campaign for EVP will revolve around:
“Perform your citizens role-Do it Right -Right the Rolls
Each one, verify one, correct one”
CEO has already convened a video conference with DEOs of all 11 districts for taking preparatory steps to roll out the EVP programme in their respective districts and sub divisions.
