7,200 M’laya youth to undergo skill devp training

SHILLONG: Under the Centre’s ‘Samarth’ scheme, 7,200 youth from Meghalaya will be imparted skill development training in apparel & garmenting, textiles and handloom sectors in joint venture of the Central and State Government.
The training programme involves advanced technology-oriented features like Aadhaar-Based Biometric Attendance System (AEBAS), CCTV recording, dedicated Call Centres, Mobile App-based Management Information System and online monitoring.
Speaking at a function in New Delhi on Wednesday, Smriti Zubin Irani said that Northeastern states must focus on silk and jute sector and review the targets of skilling under ‘Samarth’ scheme.
Post training, employment will be provided to the beneficiaries in various textiles-related activities. The programme covers the entire value chain of the textiles sector except spinning and weaving.
