JOWAI: The Hynniewtrep Achik National Movement (HANM) led by its Jaintia Hills district unit president, Shaniah Suchen, along with hundreds of activists shut down the toll gate at Ialong on Monday.
Earlier, the KSU had shut down the toll gate at Lumshnong village on the ground that the National Highway Authority of India had failed to maintain the road along the NH-6.
“We will not allow them to collect money from vehicles if they don’t maintain the road. If they want to really develop the neglected Northeastern region through their various policies then why are we still underdeveloped,” a supporter of the activist group said. The HANM has closed down the toll gate but when contacted, the police said that they had no such information.
