Crimes against women and children

TURA: The  Garo Students’ Union of East Zone Williamnagar along with NGOs and pick-up and auto associations of Williamnagar have organised a public rally and procession in Williamnagar on August 22 to raise awareness about crimes against women and children.
The decision to organise the rally was taken in a meeting of the organisations on Tuesday which discussed the growing rate of crimes against the women and children in Garo Hills.
The rally will be held at the  Rongrenggre playground and subsequently a procession will be taken out from there, informed GSU East Zone president Saljrang Tengrik R Marak.
The main objective of the rally is to make teenage girls and their parents aware about the dangers of young women falling prey to people who lure them promising lucrative jobs in other states but are later sold in human trafficking and sexually exploited, the GSU president said.
The recent cases of rape in Delhi and cases of human trafficking have prompted the NGOs to organise the rally,” he said.
The organisations have called upon the people to take part in the rally.
