NONGSTOIN: The Block Development Office Mawshynrut in collaboration with the Village Employment Councils (VECs) Seinduli falling under the Mawshynrut Civil Sub-Division on Wednesday organised a programme at Seinduli village to plant around seven-thousand fruit trees along the National Highway (NH) from Riwiang to Nongshram village, with an initiative to beautify the road side and also invite travellers to enjoy the fruits while travelling through the area.
Addressing the gathering, Deputy Commissioner (DC) of West Khasi Hills District T.Lyngwa who was the Chief Guest, appreciated the idea which, he said, will not only beautify nor serve fruit to travellers but will also protect the environment.
He added that the climatic change of the area is concerning for future generations, where people will face an acute shortage of water and water might be costlier than food grains.
He lauded the effort of the Synjuk ki Nongsynshar Shnong for coming up with the idea and make it happen through MGNREGA scheme.
