SHILLONG: Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) MDC Bajop Pyngrope said the District Council should be vigilant and not be a mute spectator on issues that affect the customs and usages of the Khasis.
His statement came in the wake of the government withdrawing the notification that the Directorate of Commerce and Industries is in charge of Industrial areas and not the District Councils. Pyngrope said the notification of the department has surreptitiously and erroneously formulated by bureaucratic skills.
He said the land today is the primary problem of a Khasi not only because of the customary tenure but it is not recorded and codified. He added that it had yielded easy prey to the changes brought about arbitrarily.
