SHILLONG: The North Eastern Hill University on Wednesday clarified that there is no violation of Act, Statute or Ordinances by the Vice Chancellor (VC) or other Statutory officers as alleged by the Joint Action Committee (JAC) of the three sections of the University–NEHUTA, NEHUNSA and NEHUSU.
It further said that the JAC’s expression of concern over non-performance of VC SK Srivastava is only to malign his image.
The university added that during the tenure of Srivastava, several achievements have been met such as the timely declaration of results by NEHU and setting up of Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Community College in Wahiajer, Jaintia Hills. AICTE approval has also been accorded to the School of Technology which was long pending for more than a decade.
It was further mentioned that the University has been accredited with ‘A’ Grade with an institutional score of 3.20, (up from the earlier score of 3.03) during the NAAC assessment in 2017 after the VC took up the assessment.
“Around 100 teachers have been promoted at different levels/stages under CAS, and also several screening committee for CAS is being held presently. Also, all the daily wage employees have been paid Central Wage which has not been done since inception of the University,” the University said.
“The Vice-Chancellor has also signed an MOU with Chulalongkorn University, Thailand after the visit of Her Royal Highness, Princess Mahachakri Sirindhorn of Thailand. Recently, in June 2019, the Thai Embassy delegation under the leadership of Jesda Katavetin, Director General, Department of South Asian, Middle East and African Affairs, Ministry of Thailand interacted with NEHU officials,” it added.
The university further highlighted major renovations across the campus such as Administrative Building, hostels, roads, street lights, painting of boundary walls, adding that major renovation in the P-Type Quarters were taken up after Srivastava took over as the VC.
“Prof. Srivastava has taken the initiative to provide geysers to all student hostels and Type-2 quarters which was not there since inception. Even additional geysers were provided to all L-Type quarters (for Assistant Professors),” the university said.
On the financial front, the University said that the budgetary allocation of NEHU has also been substantially improved from the last two years.
