MeECL clarifies on cable
SHILLONG:MeECL has clarified that the wire shown in the photo published in this daily on August 23 was not electric line of MePDCL, but it is the optic fibre cable (OFC) of the mobile/ internet service provider. “Parties who are stringing the overhead OFC are requested to ensure that these cables are strung in proper manner by maintaining the safety ground clearance to avoid any untoward incidents”, the MeECL PRO said.
Prohibitory order
Nongpoh: Section 144 CrPC has been promulgated prohibiting all unauthorised persons along with their private vehicles from stationing or loitering in and around the Narang weighbridge, an official statement issued here informed. The statement also informed that only drivers and helpers of coal-laden vehicles can enter the weighbridge. Diversion of coal trucks away from National Highway-6 without mandatory weighment shall likewise be deemed illegal and violators shall be prosecuted according to the law.
EKH Youth Exchange programme
SHILLONG: The office of the District Sports Officer, East Khasi Hills District, Shillong, has organised the first East Khasi Hills District Level Youth Exchange Programme at U So So Tham Auditorium (State Central Library) on August 21. The objective of the programme was to provide a platform to the youth to interact and for promoting exchange of ideas, values and culture. “Say No to Drug” was the theme of the programme and this particular session was presented by Arborlang Thangkhiew from Meghalaya Aids and Control Society. Fr. Anthony Kharkongor Principal of St. Anthony’s Higher Secondary School spoke about the youth issues and challenges and youth leadership.
Janmastami at ISKCON
SHILLONG: International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON), Shillong is celebrating Janmastami in RR Colony, Shillong Temple and community hall. Vice president of Bangladesh ISKCON, H.H.B.A Nabadwip Swami Maharaj has arrived in the city for three days from Shylet, Bangladesh. He will deliver his speech on Sri Krishna Janma Likakatha at the Community hall at 8 pm on Saturday. Karuna Maharaj of Shillong ISKCON informed that more disciples are needed in Shillong for daily routine works in Mandir and to spread the truth of the Hare Krishna mantra to all.
Hindi workshop
SHILLONG: Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan, Shillong (Meghalaya State) in association with Metallica-Sargam Sports & Cultural Club, observed Hindi Pakwada, and organised a day-long Hindi workshop at Youth Hostel Auditorium, Shillong on Thursday. Ingkhwanguang, State Director, Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan was the chief guest and D. Rapsang, DYC, NYKS was the guest of honour.
Demand for release of pending dues
TURA: Muster roll workers of different departments in Garo Hills under the banner of the All Garo Hills Muster Roll Workers Association (AGHMRWA) have expressed unhappiness over the failure of the state government to release their pending dues. The workers are yet to receive their wages for the months of May, June and July. “We are facing many hardships due to our pending wages. We request the government to release our pending dues within the month of August,” the workers said in statement.
DC calls for institutions with Science stream in rural areas
TURA: West Garo Hills DC, Ram Singh has called for the opening of more institutions with science stream in rural areas so as to cater to the needs of rural youth and provide learning facilities in their hometown. The District Level Science Seminar, 2019 with the topic ”Periodic Table of Chemical Elements : Impact on Human Welfare” was held on Friday for Secondary School students of the district at SMELC Building, Dakopgre, Tura where DC Ram Singh attended the programme as chief guest. The programme was organised by the District School Education Officer, Tura. Addressing the gathering, the DC said that science is an integral part of human life and therefore, understanding science is necessary for using it in our everyday lives. He said that students find it difficult since science is studied along with practical and experiments which needs extra effort, but that it is easy once the subject matter is understood.
