21 youths to represent state in Bhutan
SHILLONG: The office of the District Sports Officer, East Khasi Hills District has conducted the 1st East Khasi Hills District Level Youth Exchange Programme, 2019 at So So Tham Auditorium on August 21 even as 21 youths left for Bhutan to represent the state in the Youth Exchange Programme, 2019.
The programme aimed to provide the youths a platform to interact and exchange ideas, values and culture. “Say No to Drug” was the programme’s theme which presented by Arborlang Thangkhiew from Meghalaya Aids and Control Society. Speaking on the occasion, Fr. Anthony Kharkongor, Principal of St. Anthony’s Higher Secondary School spoke about the issues and challenges faced by the youths besides youth leadership.
The programme hosted various cultural competitions which included folk song, folk dance, quiz, debate, guitar and flute competitions. As many as 150 youths from different institutions participated in the programme.
State Institute of Arts & Culture, Shillong College and St. Mary’s Higher Secondary School were the winners of the 1st, 2nd and 3rd prize in folk song competition respectively.
In the Folk Dance competition, St. Anthony’s Higher Secondary School bagged the first prize followed by Shillong College and Seng Khasi Higher Secondary School who won the 2nd and 3rd prizes respectively.
Others who bagged prizes in different competitions included: Solo flute competition: Banehskhem Nongrang of Shillong College (first), Bikonsing Nongrum of State Institute of Arts & Culture (second) and Ikmenrahmi Tyngkon of St. Anthony’s Higher Secondary School (third); Guitar competition: Phibanraiphang Kharkongor of Shillong College (first), Thunopalu Lohe of St. Anthony’s Higher Secondary School (second) and Mebarilang Khonglam of Seven Set Higher Secondary School (third); Quiz competition: Ricarldy Dkhar and Roger Vincent Kharbamon of St. Anthony’s College (first), Juhiwanki Pala and Kumam Shane Paswett of St. Edmund’s College (second) and Balakyntiew Kharsohnoh and Kyrshanlang Lyngdoh of State Institute of Arts & Culture (third)p; Debate competition: Mahima Sinha of St. Anthony’s Higher Secondary School (first, best speaker), L.Rebeca Lhungdim of St. Edmunds College (second) and Jethro J Roy Jyrwa of St. Anthony’s Higher Secondary School (third).
M.A Challam, E.A.C, East Khasi Hills District presided as the chief guest during the prize distribution ceremony and also addressed the gathering.
Meanwhile, 21 youths (11 female and 10 male) were selected from the Meghalaya Youth Exchange Programme 2018 to represent the state for the YEP 2019 at the international level in Bhutan from Monday till August 31. The team left for Bhutan on Sunday after attending the 2-day orientation programme at J.N, Sports Complex.
The team comprised of Team Contingent Leader JR Marak, Deputy Director, Sports and Youth Affairs, Escorting Officials Phindarilyne D Lyndem, PTI, District Sports Office, West Jaintia Hills, Valareen Shylla, PTI, District Sports Office, West Khasi Hills and Alo Sandy ChMomin, PTI, District Sports Office, South Garo Hills.
The youths selected for representing the state in Bhutan included Shilshiba Nongsiej, Shimporlang Kharsyntiew, Joshua Lyngdoh, Ridalin Makri, Yoodaphi Siangshai, Deiphibanri Shangpliang, Firstly Gust Stone Challam, Ibanrishisha Lyngwa, Finestar Kharkongngor, Banribor Lyngdoh, Rupa Nylla Shangpilang, Bikram ChSangma, Pritiya G. Momin, Diyashree B. Rabha, Mongolbirth G. Momin, Rengki S Marak, Damsel R. Marak, Gresmi P. Marak, SurachCh Marak, Sengman R. Marak and Elsie ChMarak.
