St Mary’s NSS special camp
SHILLONG: The NSS Unit of St Mary’s College, Shillong, organised a week-long NSS Special Camp with 35 volunteers in Jyntah Village from August 12 to18, Iasuklang Kharumnuid, NSS Programme Officer (PO) of the college informed in a release issued here.
The camp was thematised on ‘Know your village’. Student volunteers and POs were sheltered in RCLP & UP School, Jyntah. The camp focussed on village survey, awareness programme, cleaning drive, educational programme, painting, tree plantation, cultural competition, etc.
The volunteers interacted with the village populace as part of the social work in the village and school premises, which helped them to build a better relationship with them and learn life skills.
Further, the volunteers also conducted Independence Day celebration during the camp where school children were felicitated for various competitions held in the presence of the village headman, head teachers, president SMC and the Dorbar officials.
Sanbor releases scheme
SHILLONG: South Shillong MLA Sanbor Shullai on Sunday released the 1st Phase of SUWP Scheme 2018-19 sanctioned for Rs 37,11,000 for implementation of various developmental schemes within Shillong Cantonment Area, besides distributing household materials to more than 3000 families.
The release of the scheme and distribution of household articles coincided with the celebration of the MLA’s 53rd birthday at Dudgeon Line Saradiya Community Hall, a release issued here informed.
The birthday celebration was organised by the Monitor-Cum-Implementation Committee (MCIC) in collaboration with Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Cantonment Area Mandal.
B Das, General Secretary, Puja Committee, A Marwein, Secretary, MCIC and Nisha Thapa, President, (BJP) Mahila Morcha Cantonment Area Mandal addressed the gathering. Sanbor cut the birthday cake and distributed sweets to youths, children and general public.
Moreover, prayer service for good health and long life of the MLA was conducted by the chief priest, P Purkayastha. Sanbor said that the birthday gift materials will be distributed to all the localities within 19 South Shillong Constituency.
YHAI celebrates founder’s day
SHILLONG: Youth Hostels Association of India (YHAI) Meghalaya State Branch celebrated the 110th Founders Day on Saturday, a release issued here informed.
Students presented cultural performances while the CPC wing of Meghalaya State Branch gave a Khasi traditional performance. Students from four different schools participated in the painting competition organised on the topic ‘Save Water’.
ED Nongsiang, Chairman, YHAI, S Rapthap, president, YHAI and Fabian Syiem, Treasurer YHAI handed over the prizes to the winners. The National Vice President of YHAI also addressed the gathering.
