KHADC appoints acting sordar
SHILLONG: The Executive Committee (EC) of the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) has appointed Roket Shabong as the acting sordar to administer over the Elaka Umniuh-Tmar. He was appointed after the term of Sirdar, PS Khongbeh term ends on July 30.

Girl missing
SHILLONG: The office of the Superintendent of Police, East Khasi Hills has informed that one Risha Syiemlieh (18), sister of Shri Malcom Syiemlieh of Umlyngka, Upper Shillong has been missing from her residence since Monday night. The SP has also urged all concerned who can identify and give information about the missing girl to contact 2222214/2547600 or 9774070078. The girl has fair complexion, stands 5 foot tall and has been last seen wearing a blue frock, green jainkyrshah and maroon slippers.

Intensive afforestation
SHILLONG: An Intensive Afforestation programme, jointly organised by the NSS, NCC and NYKS of the state and the Forest & Environment Department and Industries Department, Government of Meghalaya, was held at Jongksha Village, East Khasi Hills District, on Tuesday, as part of the Jal Shakti Abhiyan campaign for water conservation. The programme started with with short speeches from RS Gill, APCCF, Meghalaya, Inkhuanguang, State Director, NYKS, D Nongkynrih, Programme Coordinator, NEHU NSS, W Kharsohnoh and the Sordar of Jongksha village. BD Cajee, State NSS Officer gave the vote of thanks to end the programme. The DFO and Range Officer, East Khasi Hills District was also present in the programme. As many as 1000 volunteers and cadets of the three organisations from various universities, colleges, schools and localities participated in the programme. Further, 2000 saplings were also planted in the water catchment areas.

Pre-placement drive in city
SHILLONG: A two-day Pre Placement Drive was organised at the Don Bosco Hall in the city which concluded on Tuesday in order to enhance the employability and provide exposure and gainful employment to the youths in best of Corporate India, a release issued here said. The drive was organised by IPE Global in collaboration with Meghalaya State Skills Development Society, Government of Meghalaya and Aide et Action. The event was conducted under the government project, “Supporting Human Capital Development in Meghalaya” (SHCDM) which is funded by the Asian Development Bank (ADB). As many as 400 youths registered for job placement in various sectors which includes IT/ITES, Hospitality, Banking & Insurance, Tourism, and many more. A total of 12 candidates have already been selected for IT/ITES jobs on the spot. The second round of the pre placement drive here has been scheduled on September 5 and 6, the release informed.

Art & craft exhibition
SHILLONG: Crayons: The School of Art &Craft, Oakland organised a three-day Annual Art & Craft Exhibition at Hotel Majestic, Polo Market which concluded on Monday, a release issued here informed. Raphael Warjri, an eminent artist & film maker, inaugurated the exhibition on Saturday. Others who were present on the occasion included D. Henpilen, a freelance artist, Sukalpa Bhattcharjee, Faculty, Dept. of English, NEHU, Utpal Kumar De, Faculty, Dept. of Economics, NEHU, Ratnadeep Roy, Principal of Women’s College, Harsh Jhunjhunwala, Executive Editor, Eastern Panaroma and N. Rajan, Retd. Professor, IIT, Mumbai. As many as 200 exhibits were displayed by students from class 5 to 7 with different themes.
