Traffic trial run misfires

Editor,

A trial run was started w.e.f. 27.05.2019 for the traffic arrangement from Dhankheti point proceeding to Lachumiere area to decongest the traffic during school hours and “No-Entry” was implemented from 7:30 -9:00 am & 2:00 – 4:00 pm. Instead, the vehicles have to follow the extreme left side of the road proceeding towards Malki Point.

However, this has spectacularly failed, for on one side you have an overcrowded Dhankheti-Malki-Barik road and on the other side an empty Dhankheti-Lachumiere road. The Dhankheti-Donbosco road has also got immensely crowded up, since a lot of traffic take that route and thereafter proceed via Jacob’s Ladder to St. Anthony’s College and beyond.

Evacuation of traffic should be the primary concern during traffic jams, and no logic can be found for making the Dhankheti-Lachumiere road a “One-Way road”, and creating a chaotic situation all across the area. This restriction should be immediately rescinded, and the earlier arrangement of this road being a two-way road should be restored.

Water conservation by students

Editor,

Kudos to the Central Board of Secondary Education for directing the schools affiliated to it to teach children to conserve water in their daily lives. The Board has directed that all its affiliated schools ensure that every student saves one litre of water every day at home and  at school. To make schools and students proactively participate in the ” Jal Shakti Abhiyaan”, the CBSE has also directed schools to  make  eco clubs pro-active and also strengthen the existing ones. The CBSE chairperson has said that while eco clubs would continue to promote environment and climate literacy and motivate learners to become champions for environmental sustainability, the thrust of this year’s co-curricular activities from primary to senior secondary section will be on water conservation and CBSE schools will necessarily follow the  agenda. According to the campaign  it will be ensured that every child from class 5 to 12  shall save one litre of water every day at home and in school. The main aim is to set a target for all CBSE schools  to become water efficient in three years. Simple practices at home and at school on saving water can definitely make the students aware of the necessity of saving the elixir of life. They have to be told about the severe water scarcity that the world witnessed recently in mega metros like Cape Town and our own Chennai. Many other cities in India too faced severe water scarcity this year.

As children are the future  keepers of the environment and the custodians of tomorrow’s world they have to be trained in a meticulous way to protect water bodies, conserve water and use it without wasting it. Definitely the CBSE’s initiative will make the students understand the problem and give them an opportunity to practice it in their daily lives for a better future.

Height of superstition

Editor,

BJP MP Pragya Singh Thakur (Bhopal MP) has kicked up a controversy saying that the Opposition is using ‘marakshati’ (killing power) to harm BJP leaders. She further said that this evil power was behind the recent deaths of former Union ministers Arun Jaitley and Sushma Swaraj. It may be recalled that Sushma Swaraj died on August 6 and Arun Jaitley on August 24.She made this highly objectionable statement while addressing a condolence meeting at the state BJP office to pay tributes to Jaitley and former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Babulal Gaur who died on August 20.

Sadhvi Pragya’s statement is extremely objectionable as this statement exposes her attitude. Equally intriguing is her perspective and point of views. She said, “While I was contesting elections, a Maharajji told me that bad times are upon us and Opposition is up to something using some ‘marakshakti’ against the BJP. Now when I see our top leaders leaving us one by one, I am forced to think, wasn’t Maharajji right?” This shows how superstitious and irrational she is. Her illogical statement can only help foster superstitious beliefs in the minds of the people of this country. Further, it can cause hatred and animosity making people further divided and narrow-minded.

An ideal leader should always lead the people from darkness to light. Here, Sadhvi is doing vice versa. Is the Opposition able to annihilate the BJP leaders by performing black magic on them? Everyone has to ponder over this unfounded and naïve statement. The central leadership of the BJP must take it seriously and take measures to correct such leaders in the Party.

Yours etc.,
