Mawkyrwat: After months of tracking the people involved in smuggling cattle to Bangladesh via Mawkyrwat, the Hynniewtrep Achik National Movement (HANM), Mawkyrwat Circle in a joint attempt with the Seng Samla Shnong Nonglang (SSSN) had on Tuesday night seized 5 trucks and one pick-up truck carrying 107 cattle on suspicion that they would be smuggled to Bangladesh.
Secretary of the SSSN, Francis Donbok Kharlyngdoh informed that the incident took place at around 11:00 pm at Nonglang village, on the way from Mawkyrwat to Ranikor in which the members of the two organisations laid a trap and successfully seized the trucks.
The seized trucks bore the registration numbers: ML-06-3567, ML-05T-1524 (Bolero pick-up), ML-06-4100, ML-05K-1913, ML-10B-0852 and ML-05-4328.
“These cattle were brought from Byrnihat in which they travelled through the Nongstoin-Mawkyrwat road and after reaching Nonglang village, they were caught by the members of the HANM and the members of the Seng Samla Shnong who have been laying trap for many months against cattle smuggler,” Kharlyngdoh said.
The two organisations immediately informed the police about the incident and the latter rushed to the spot and brought all the vehicles and cattle to Mawkyrwat police station.
Meanwhile, president of the HANM Mawkyrwat Circle, Lambokstar Marwein has expressed concern over the increase in the price of meat which comes as a result of the smuggling of cattle to Bangladesh.
“We have been tracking the people involved in smuggling of cattle to Bangladesh for many months by laying trap in many parts of the road from Mawkyrwat-Ranikor, and we will continue to do so,” Marwein said.
The Mawkyrwat police have registered a case in connection to this.
