NGOs raise alarm in Ri Bhoi after NRC published in Assam

NONGPOH:  NGOs in Ri Bhoi district were on high alert following release of the final list of NRC by the Assam Government on Saturday. A delegation of the Hynniewtrep National Youth Front (HNYF) members also visited the Infiltration Checkgate at Byrnihat to get first hand report as well as to put pressure on the infiltration staff stationed at Byrnihat to keep a strict vigil on the inflow of those not included in the final list of the NRC.

Led by Marcus Marten, President of the HNYF, NKH along with members from Nongpoh Circle, the Federation has expressed serious concerned as more than 19 lakhs person who were not included in the final list of the NRC as release by the Assam Government might take refuge in Meghalaya.

During the visit at the Infiltration Checkgate at Byrnihat, the Federation members also detected illegal immigrants who do not possessed any documents and send them back to Assam.

Meanwhile, Marten also urged the state government to beef up personnel at the Infiltration Chackgate so as to foil any attempts by illegal immigrants from Assam to take refuge in Meghalaya as their safe haven.
