Voters verification programme held in Tura

TURA: The State wide launch of Electors Verification Programme (EVP) took place here on Saturday at the Common Service Centre (CSC), in Chandmary.

It may be mentioned that the program was supposed to be launch on 1st September but since it falls on Sunday the launch for the state have been preponed to 31st August for the launch program in the State.

Speaking on the occasion as Chief Guest, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Election), Tura Zenithsky J Sangma informed the gathering that this is an opportunity given to the citizens of the district to verify their electoral details and can correct any incorrect information in the rolls in any of the Common Service Centres or at the Electoral Registration Office. He also mentioned that the program is being done as per the direction of the Election Commission of India during the pre-revision period on a campaign mode. He further, informed that there are about 50 Common Service Centre in the district out of which 40 are most active and these least active centres will also be activated during this program and for the sake of accuracy and to avoid mistakes during data entry, information, collection and verification, etc, would be done digitally, he added.

Stating that EPIC is one of the important document as proof of identity of a person, he said that we need to have our EPIC Card so that we can produce it whenever we need to prove our identity as the citizen of country and added that if we should also participate in exercising our right to vote during elections.

While delivering her keynote address, Dimse A Sangma, EAC (Election), Tura highlighted about the objectives of the programme which will enable the electors to verify their names, address on voters list and improve the quality or update the photograph on the electoral roll by calling Toll Free Voters Helpline 1950 or by using Voters Helpline Android app or by visiting www.nvsp.inwww.meghalaya.nic.in or www.ceomeghalaya.nic.in commencing from 1st September to 30th September, 2019 to ensure an error free Electoral Roll. The facilities are available in all the Common Service Centres of the district, or the Office of the Electoral Registration office, she added.

During the function, the Chief Guest also released and distributed the EVP Posters and Stickers to operators of common service centres and others for dissemination about the program to public at large.

Extra Assistant Commissioner, Tura Tennystar R Marak, District Youth Icon, Dadenggre Civil Sub-Division and Marathon runner Batsrang A Sangma were among others who spoke on the occasion while EAC, Dadenggre Civil Sub-Division, Florina Boro, DSP, Tura John Clitzer A Sangma, officials from different departments, representatives from Development Committee, Bonepa locality, BLOs, Enumerators were among others present at the function.
