TURA: An impressive presentation of the A’chik drama ‘Dukon II’ was performed in front of a packed audience at the District Auditorium in Tura on Friday evening.
West Garo Hills Additional Deputy Commissioner and Project Director CN Sangma graced the occasion as the chief guest.
The workshop was organised by the North East Zone Cultural Centre, Ministry of Culture, Government of India, Dimapur in collaboration with the Department of Art and Culture in association with A’chik Theatre, Tura.
In his address to the gathering, Sangma lauded the organisers and called for more participation in the field of drama and theatre.
He also shared his experiences of watching dramas during his childhood days and said that people should take the opportunity of providing professional guidance and support to develop their talents and inspire them to pursue theatre as a career in the future.
It may be mentioned that Du’kon II which had evolved from the 15-day workshop was directed by Pabitra Rabha, an alumni of National School of Drama, New Delhi and co-directed by Balsrame A Sangma, who recently passed out from the National School of Drama in Sikkim with the assistance of Pallab Medhi, T and SC, Sonapur Theatre and Stage Craft, Assam.
The play depicts the changing scenario of the lives of the young and old generation in which the former longs for modern pleasures while the latter muse on earlier times.
The name Du’kon is based on the mystical plant found in Garo Hills and is believed that if anyone steps on the plant they would lose their way and drift throughout the world aimlessly.
At the end of the play, the dignitaries presented certificates to all the participants of workshop.
Assistant curator of the district museum in Tura, Kimde R Marak, author and former principal of Christian Girls Higher Secondary School Icylian R Marak and members of the A’”chik Theatre Society, Tura were among others who were present during the programme.
