SHILLONG: A joint team of ANTF East Jaintia Hills, Ladrymbai Outpost and VDP members recovered 10.64 grams of heroin from Pamra Mukoi Lara in the district on Friday.
Three persons were arrested and have been identified as Jop Siangshai, Admanstone Pyrbot and Centre Laloo. The trio were booked under Article 21(b)/29 of the NDPS Act and provided police with information which led to the arrest of a fourth individual in an undisclosed location in West Jaintia Hills on Saturday who police suspect might be the main supplier of drugs in Jaintia Hills.
Police have not divulged his name.
Sources said the drug situation has improved in the district compared to the last couple of months which can be attributed to the fact that the police have had to change their strategy by going after the major drug suppliers in the district.
When asked about the routes which drug suppliers use, sources said that the Silchar-Shillong route was earlier used for smuggling drugs into Meghalaya but suppliers are now using the Guwahati-Shillong route.
However, police are not taking any chances and they are conducting regular checking along the national highways.
