Polo cricket ground under massive renovation

SHILLONG: The only standard size cricket ground in Shillong, Polo Cricket ground is currently undergoing massive upgradation work which is likely to be completed by January 2020.
Meghalaya Cricket Association, Honorary Secretary, Naba Bhattacharjee informed that the ground is being raised and pop up sprinker water system is being installed in the ground apart from a much improved drainage system Stating that grasses for the outfield and the turf for the ground is being imported from England; he said that the BCCI which is directly implementing the project is also constructing a dressing room in the ground. The project of indoor facility which is also supposed to come up in the ground will come at a later stage once the upgradation work of the ground is completed As far as installing flood lights in the ground, Bhattacharjee said that the State Government in principle has agreed to sanction the funds for the lights even as no sanction has been received as of now. Talking about a cricket stadium, he informed that the MCA have identified a land in Ri Bhoi for the construction of a cricket stadium and the place will be finalized soon.
