Deficit teachers determined to protest

SHILLONG: The deficit teachers association will go ahead with their black ribbon day protest on the occasion of Teachers’ Day celebration.
In a statement issued, the Khasi Jaintia Deficit School Teachers Association (KJDSTA), president Kular Khongjirem said the teachers under the banner of KJDSTA and Garo Hills Deficit Teachers and Employees Association (GHDSTEA) will attend the respective functions wearing black ribbons to show the sorry state of affairs.
“The comment from the Education Minister made in the press on the problems of teachers was not clear, unacceptable and created confusion in the mind of the teachers. He tried to beat around the bush and he was not confident himself,” he said. He said the Minister should settle the problems of deficit teachers once and for all amicably.
The State Education Minister Lahkmen Rymbui recently said the issues of teachers cannot be solved at one go as the work is under progress even as the department will find ways and means to address their issues.
