Ex-MLAs to get enhanced pension

SHILLONG: Deputy Chief Minister in charge of Parliamentary Affairs, Prestone Tynsong introduced the Legislative Assembly of Meghalaya (Members’ Pension) (Amendment) Bill 2019 to further to amend the Legislative Assembly of Meghalaya (Members’Pension) Act, 1977,
The Legislative Assembly of Meghalaya (Members’ Pension) (Amendment) Bill, 2019 is to enhance the additional pension from Rs 1000 to Rs 2000 per month and to include a new provision with entitlement for Driver Allowance of Rs 10, 000 per month to the ex-MLAs.
According to the government, the proposed Bill is found to be reasonable and commensurate with the prevailing economic conditions.
The enhancement will entail additional expenditure out of the consolidated fund of the state.
Tynsong also introduced the Legislative Assembly of Meghalaya (Members’ Salaries and Allowances) (Amendment) bill 2019 which was further to amend the Legislative Assembly of Meghalaya (Members’ Salaries and Allowances) Act, 1972.

According to the existing provision, a daily allowance at the rate of Rs 600 is being paid to the members’ attendance in the Assembly required in connection with his duties.
The proposal is to enhance the daily allowance to Rs 1200.
Chief Minister Conrad Sangma and in charge of Excise Registration Taxation Stamps (ERTS) department introduced the Meghalaya Regulation of the Game of Arrow Shooting and the Sale of Teer Tickets (Amendment) Bill, 2019 to further amend the Meghalaya Regulation of the Game of Arrow Shooting and the Sale of Teer Tickets Act, 2018.
In sub-section (1) of Section 6 of the 2018 Act for the words and figures 1000 feet or 3000 meters”, the words and figures “100 meters” will be substituted.
It was in August this year that the state cabinet had decided to reduce the distance of setting up of state counters in the state from the existing 300 meters from educational and religious institutions to 100 meters.
Other Bills introduced are the Meghalaya Electricity (Amendment and Validation) Bill, 2019, the Court Fees (Meghalaya Amendment) Bill, 2019, Meghalaya Forest Regulation (Amendment) Bill, 2019, the Meghalaya Building and Other Construction Workers’ Welfare Board Bill, 2019.
