SHILLONG: The United Democratic Party (UDP) East Khasi Hills District has elected new office bearers on Friday with an aim to strengthen the party for the Shella by-election.
The election to the constituency was necessitated following the demise of its MLA, Donkupar Roy.
Having been elected as the president of UDP East Khasi Hills District, Titoswell Chyne told reporters that there were discussions on Shella by-election where the UDP circles falling under East Khasi Hills will have to work hard to ensure victory for Roy’s son, Balajiedkupar Synrem.
Asked, he said that sees no threat to Synrem as till date the Congress has not announced its candidature for the Shella by-polls
Names that were forefront for the Congress ticket are sitting Congress MDC Grace Mary Kharpuri, Batyngshaiñ Rynga and retired IAS officer, Wilfred Khyllep.
One minute silence was observed in memory of Roy, the late UDP president.
