Hek wants Centre to probe into internal conflict in NEIGRIHMS

SHILLONG: Health and Family Welfare Minister of Meghalaya, AL Hek on Thursday  asked the Chief Minister to propose to the Union Government to constitute a high level inquiry to resolve the ongoing issue between the Administration and Cardiology department of NEIGRIHMS.

Replying to a short duration discussion on the issue of the death of a woman patient in NEIGRIHMS due to the tussle between Administration and Cardiology department few months back,  Hek said that the Committee could have   senior officers from State as well as the Central Government as members besides experts form any big medical institute be it  AIIMS Delhi and other such institutions of repute.

Earlier, Hek said,    there was an executive Committee    for NEIGRIHMS which was chaired by the Secretary of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and the important function of the committee was to supervise the  overall administration and management of the institutes   besides considering and approving the budget estimates    and recommending the same for the  adoption of the  Government council

He said that the   last time, such an executive committee was reconstituted on June and  meetings of the EC were never called or informed to the State Government.

Stating that the matter pertaining to the death of a woman in the institute was taken  with the former Union Health Minister, JP Nadda requesting him to intervene into the matter, Hek added  he and Chief Minister had already apprised the former Union Health Minister   of the state of affairs in the institute.

Informing that the CBI too have   conducted search in the institute, he added that  the Government was awaiting further reports on the matter while adding that the Government was closely watching the situation.

Earlier, while initiating the discussion, Mawphlang MLA, SK Sunn said that    the State Government must intervene in the ongoing tussle in the institute even as he lamented that Meghalaya till date did not have a state medical Council.

MLA from Mawlai, PT Sawkmie  said that NEIGRIHMS is a blessing for the people of the state but several issues have cropped up in the institute since last 2 years due to the mismanagement of the Director.

Umroi MLA, George Lyngdoh said that the situation had become embarrassing while informing that the NEIGRIHMS did not even accept the blood donor card issued by the Meghalaya Blood Transfusion Council.

North Shillong MLA, Edelbrt Nongrum demanded that serious action should be taken against the Director  while Mawkyrwat MLA, Renikton Lyngdoh Tongkhar said many people from rural areas reluctant to visit NEIGRIHMS as they think that it was big hospital and the treatment here would be expensive.
