Army to conduct ‘Himvijay’ exercise
New Delhi: The Indian Army will conduct its massive exercise “Himvijay” in Arunachal Pradesh in OCtober, where three Integrated Battle Groups (IBGs) carved out of Panagrah-based 17 Mountain Strike Corps will participate. Over 15,000 troops will participate in the exercise. “The Indian Air Force has been roped in to provide transportation of troops and equipment at the venue,” sources in the defence establishment said. Sources said assets with the Tezpur-based 4 Corps will be used in the operation while personnel would be completely from the Mountain Strike Corps. These IBGs were raised two months back in an effort to ensure faster punitive and defensive operations. The IBGs are part of the reforms in the way the Indian Army functions. (UNI)
IPFT meets BJP natl prez
Agartala: A delegation of Indigenous Peoples Front of Tripura (IFPT) led by its president Narendra Chandra Debbarma met BJP national working president J P Nadda, on Tuesday demanding to get adequate representation in contest of all 28 seats of upcoming Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (ADC) election to be held early next year. The IPFT general secretary and Tribal Welfare Minister Mevar Kumar Jamatia said that the delegates, in a meeting with J P Nadda, expressed their intension to contest in all the seats in the ensuing ADC election. The IPFT delegation submitted a memorandum to Nadda regarding the demand of a separate state for indigenous people in Tripura. The IPFT leaders also held a meeting with the North-East Democratic Alliance (NEDA) delegation at Guwahati demanding to scrap the Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB), meanwhile, seeking implementation of NRC in Tripura, which the state BJP did not want like other opposition parties.
