Teenager missing
SHILLONG: Nandalal Josh (17), a resident of Lower Basupara, Tura, has been missing from his residence since Thursday morning. He is approximately 5 feet tall, lean and has fair complexion. When he was last seen, he was wearing navy blue track pants and a grey t-shirt.
Army Public School cultural fest
SHILLONG: Army Public School (APS), Shillong hosted the Cultural Festival 2019 of Eastern Command to showcase the talents of all the Army Public School of Eastern Command at the David Hall of the school premises on Thursday from 9 am to 1.30 pm. Major General RS Bhadauria, MG-IC ADM, Eastern Command was the chief guest along with special invitees Major General P K Saini, COS 101 Area, D P Goyal, Director of IIM Shillong & H. Nongpluh, Additional Director General of Police (L&O/TAP/SB) and Chairman of CRB, Meghalaya, Shillong besides chairmen, principals of all the Army Public School, heads of other schools and colleges, educationists, officers and ladies. The participants were also handed prizes after the cultural performances during the programme.
Closing ceremony of Hindi Week
SHILLONG: Office of the Principal Accountant General (A&E), Meghalaya, Shillong and Regional Training Institute, Meghalaya celebrated the closing ceremony of Hindi Week at the Civil Audit Sports and Cultural Club, Office of the Principal Accountant General (Audit), Meghalaya, Shillong on Monday. S.K. Srivastava, Vice Chancellor, NEHU, who was the chief guest, inaugurated the programme by lighting of the ceremonial lamp. Others who spoke on the occasion included Subbaiah, Deputy Accountant General (Admn.) and Rakesh Ranjan Mishra, Sr. Translator, Office of the Principal Accountant General (A&E), Shillong Two Annual Hindi magazines namely “Purvasha” 28th edition and “Navin Purvanchal Sandesh” 14th edition were released by the chief guest. Further, cash prizes along with certificates were given to the winners of Hindi Essay Writing, Translation, Hindi Dictation and Antakshari.
RKM seminar, quiz competition
Shillong: To commemorate 126th Swami Vivekananda’s historic participation in the World Parliament of Religions at Chicago in 1893, Ramakrishna Mission Ashrama, Sohra organised a seminar cum quiz competition on a very special paper on Hinduism presented by Swamiji to recreate the conception of Hinduism among the people of the world. Twelve schools participated in the competition. The first prize was won by Ramakrishna Mission HS Sohra, represented by Gideon Lyngdoh and Savvy Lyngdoh. The second prize went to Army Public School, Shillong represented by Santanu Dhar & Abhradeep Bhattacharjee and the third prize was won by St. Edmund’s School, Shillong represented by Divyendu Kashyap & Arush Rahman.
Lecture on STs and politics
Shillong: Women’s College, Shillong organised the Eleventh Pundit Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar National Endowment Lecture on Thursday. The theme was “The Scheduled Tribes and Their Politics”. The lecture series was started in 2009 by the Internal Quality Assurance Cell, Women’s College, Shillong. This year’s lecture was delivered by Professor Nandini Sundar, Department of Sociology, Delhi School of Economics. The lecture was enlightening in many ways going back to the time of the framing of the Indian Constitution. The Chairperson was T.B. Subba, Professor of Anthropology, NEHU.
