City school organises science, art & craft exhibition
SHILLONG: A Science, Art and Craft exhibition was organised by the students of Holy Child Higher Secondary School, Demthring, Shillong, on Friday under the theme ‘Advanced Application of Science and Technology’. In the exhibition, students showcased many static and working models under various topics. The students of Home Science showcased models and projects based on painting and embroidery, weaving, fashion designing and home furnishing. Socially Useful Productive Work (SUPW) of the students were also showcased in the exhibition. Altogether 160 projects were presented by the students. Chief guest Lahkmen Rymbui, Minister of Education, Forests & Environment and Border Area Development has appreciated the talent of the students and praised them for their innovations and laborious work. In his speech, Rymbui lauded the principal for opening new opportunities for students and talked about the adverse effect of pollution. Rymbui’s message to the students was that plastic is not a problem, but our irresponsibility creates the problem. So he urged the students to learn how to manage themselves, manage their habits and manage their activities to manage the environment.
NEEPCO celebrates Hindi Divas
SHILLONG: The North Eastern Electric Power Corporation (NEEPCO), Shillong, recently celebrated Hindi Divas where Anil Kumar, Director attended the programme as chief guest and Dr. M.P Pandey, Professor, Hindi Department of NEHU was the special guest. Speaking at the programme, Kumar has urged all the employees of the corporation to learn Hindi and use it in their day to day official works. “In addition of achieving our main goal and targets, we should also try our best to fulfill our constitutional responsibility of increasing the progressive use of Hindi in our official works. We should put our full efforts to achieve the targets laid down in the annual programme related to the use and progress of Hindi in offices,” the Director said.
State-wide pre-placement drive
SHILLONG: As part of the Asian Development Bank assisted Supporting Human Capital Development in Meghalaya (SHCDM) programme, the mobilising team of Aide-Et-Action are taking the pre-placement drive at Williamnagar on September 21, Byrnihat on September 23, Mawkyrwat and Resubelpara on September 24, Ampati and Jowai on September 25 and the programme will be conducted for two days in Tura on September 27 and 28. After the overwhelming response to the SHCDM placement drive held earlier this month in Shillong, the project mobilisers are taking the drive state-wide which means that this time, the opportunity for on-the-spot registration and counselling is going to be presented to the youth.
Meet on Army Public Schools
SHILLONG: Eastern Command HQ held the annual meeting of principals and chairmen to take stock of the academic progress of Army Public Schools and to discuss the focus areas relating to academic and administrative aspects to achieve all-round excellence. The meet on September 19 and 20 was hosted by APS Shillong under the direction and guidance of HQ 101 Area. The main programme was held at David Hall of the school. The plenary session of the meet was chaired by Lt Gen RP Kalita, Chief of Staff, Eastern Command. The sessions and interactions opened new vistas of knowledge and understanding of teaching practices besides providing an opportunity for exchange of ideas. Cash awards and overall excellence trophies were distributed. Besides the plenary session, a first-of-its-kind cultural festival was also organised as part of the meet.
Cleaning drive in EKH village
SHILLONG: The Social Service Centre (SSC) has organised a cleaning drive on Friday at Lamsain village and in Laitdiengsai village. An awareness programme on waste management and segregation of waste was also oragnised followed by a tree plantation and distribution of dustbin to the schools and to the community. The Social Service Centre working with Caritas India on FARM Project has conducted many activities related to farmers and also based on the environment. Apart from this, Social Service Centre has also collaborated with the Earth Day Network with the aim to sensitise people on environment, climate change and the adverse effect of the use of plastic bags with the theme ‘Say No to Plastic’. In line with this objective Social Service Centre has organised different awareness programme on environment, climate change, cleaning drive.
Bakdil clarifies
SHILLONG: Bakdil, Tura has clarified that it never petitioned the Meghalaya High Court regarding the shifting of Polytechnic college to Gasupara. In a statement, the organisation said, “The news item published under the headline Bakdil petitions High Court appeared in the Garo Hills edition of the Shillong Times. The petition has been filed without our knowledge and consent. I wish to inform that we have not authorised anyone to petition on our behalf either with regard to the said issue.”
