State team leaves for Santosh Trophy qualifiers

SHILLONG: The Meghalaya senior men’s football team has departed for Agartala to take part in the Santosh Trophy North East qualifiers on Friday.
The squad, led by Coach Khlain Pyrkhat Syiemlieh, consists of experienced and youthful players selected by the senior cell committee with an aim to give the state’s young talents an opportunity on the big stage.
Meghalaya, who are in Group B and have been clubbed with Railways, Nagaland and Manipur, will play their first match against Railways on September 23 followed by Nagaland on September 25 and Manipur on September 27.
Meghalaya Football Association Treasurer Wanshan Kharkrang has sent his best wishes to the team and urged them to display a great game of football.
While, senior cell member L Darlong, during the send-off at 3rd Ground, Polo, on Friday morning, instilled few words of confidence into the boys’ minds.
Squad: Goalkeepers: Padam Chettri, Justly Sungoh. Defenders: Mebankhraw K Wahlang, Kenstar Kharshong, Batskhem Tariang, Atlanson Kharmaw. Midfielders: Ronaldkydon Lyngdoh Nonglait, Samuel J Lyngdoh Kynshi, Nikelson Bina, Phrangki Buam, Belton Lartang, Raikutshisha Buam, Allen C Lyngdoh Nongbri, Aenam Jyrwa, Dawanchwa C Challam. Forwards: Figo Syndai, Shano Tariang, Donlad Diengdoh, Sheen S Sohktung, Roikhihbha Nongtdu.
