Seminar on traditional healing

Shillong: A one-day seminar was organised by the association of traditional healers of West Khasi Hills – Seng Nongsumar Dawai Khasi Nylla (SNDKN)— in Markasa recently.
The association pointed out that its main aim and objective is to preserve medicinal plants. It also said that traditional healers should be recognised by the state and central governments.
The association has its headquarter in Nongstoin.
SNDKN secretary Spasterlin Nongrem highlighted the collaboration of traditional healing with other sciences.
Dr Verity Markhap of Government Ayurvedic College and Hospital, Guwahati spoke on the treatment of poisonous bites, bone settings and traditional birth attendance. She focused on the importance of traditional healing and its association with other sciences of medicine, along with the need to research strategies in various institutions.
The association has also represented Meghalaya in various platforms like World Ayurveda Congress, Gujarat being one of them.
Dr. S. Kharmawphlang, District Medical and Health Officer, West Khasi Hills spoke on treatment of jaundice, arthritis and common ailments. She laid emphasis on a few local plants which could be maintained in the kitchen garden.
