UK envoy to Pakistan cooks ‘gajar ka halwa’
Islamabad: After successfully making daal and roti, Thomas Drew, the British High Commissioner to Pakistan, has now showcased his skills in cooking ‘gajar ka halwa’.
Drew posted a video on Twitter on Saturday, in which he can be seen making the traditional carrot-based dessert, The Express Tribune reported.
“My second lesson cooking carrot halwa. Easily the most delicious (and most indulgent) dish you can make with carrots,” he wrote.
On September 8, he had posted about his his “first lesson in Pakistani cooking”.
“While still hot outside, I stayed in to have my first lesson in Pakistani cooking. Started with the basics: daal and, below, roti,” he tweeted along with a photo where he is seen making the items.
Drew was appointed the High Commissioner to Pakistan in February 2016. (IANS)
Dozens of dead cats found in NY home after eviction
NEW YORK: Authorities are investigating the deaths of dozens of cats found at an upstate New York home after the former owner was evicted.
The Times Herald-Record reports that the remains of 89 cats had been removed from the house in Montgomery as of midday Friday.
Montgomery town Police Chief Arnold “Butch” Amthor says conditions in the house were “horrific.” Boxes containing more dead cats were found in an open grave behind the house. A label on one box read, “RIP Zippy you were a good little girl.”
The cat remains were discovered when a work crew arrived to clear out the house.
Animal Control Officer Anne Ilkiw says about eight cats survived. Authorities say animal cruelty charges may be filed by the Orange County district attorney’s office. (AP)
Saudi prince gives private jet to Imran for US travel
Islamabad: Saudi Crown Prince Mohamed bin Salman gave Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan his private jet as he left for the US after his two-day visit to the Kingdom, media reports said on Sunday.
The Saudi Crown Prince stopped Khan from embarking on a commercial flight to the US on Saturday and asked him to fly onboard his private jet as he could not let his guest travel in a commercial plane, The News International reported.
Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi, Adviser on Finance Abdul Hafeez Shaikh, Special Assistant on Overseas Pakistanis Zulfikar Abbas Bukhari also accompanied the Prime Minister. (IANS)
