Matchakolgre Health and Wellness centre opened
SHILLONG/TURA: The Minister for Health and Family Welfare, A L Hek on Monday inaugurated the newly upgraded Pynthorbah Health and Wellness Centre in the city. Pynthorbah Urban Public Health Centre is the first amongst the UPHC in East Khasi Hills District to be upgraded to Health and Wellness Centre.
Speaking at the inaugural programme, the minister said that health centre is one of the components of Ayushman Bharat or Healthy India that cover prevention promotion and ambulatory care at primary level.
He said that these facilities can provide comprehensive treatment and services that can ensure maximum benefit to every citizen.
Hek also said, “Health department’s mission is to reach out to the last mile to ensure that every individual avail the benefits of the health schemes of the Central and State Government.”
With health being a core issue of concern for the government, the implementation of the Meghalaya Health Insurance Scheme (MHIS) is testimony to the government’s commitment to ensure health for its citizens, Hek said.
He added that with the implementation of Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PM-JAY) with MHIS in Meghalaya as a universal health insurance scheme, its success and affordability rests substantially on the effectiveness of provision of Comprehensive Primary Health Care through Health & Wellness Centres.
He urged upon the doctors, nurses, ASHAs and Anganwadi workers to work with dedication to see that this programme achieve its purpose.
He also called upon the Rangbah Shnongs, Seng Longkmie and Seng Samla to shoulder the responsibility to carry the message to every nook and corner of the area and to cooperate with health workers in implementing this scheme.
The Joint Director of Health Services (MCH & FW) cum Nodal Officer, NPCDCS & HWC, Meghalaya, Dr. M Marbaniang said that the state has implemented the Comprehensive Primary Health Care Programme in five districts of the state.
In Tura, as part of the celebration of Ayushman Bharat in the country, the Matchakolgre Health and Wellness Centre was inaugurated at Matchakolgre Urban Health Centre, Tura on Monday.
It may be mentioned that the Matchakolgre Urban Health Centre (PHC) is being upgraded to Health and Wellness Centre under the National Health Policy 2017 including 9 PHCs which would be upgraded to C PHCs, 29 Sub-Centres to Health and Wellness Centre and 3 Urban Health Centre to Urban PHC, Health and Wellness Centre in the district.
Speaking on the occasion as chief guest, Additional Deputy Commissioner, West Garo Hills, C N Sangma said that the objective of the programme is prominent since the government is making efforts to improve the overall health scenario of the country in general and the region in particular.
During her address, DM & CHO, Tura, I M Sangma informed that Ayushman Bharat is a flagship program of the Government of India and announced two major initiatives in health sector with the objective to address health holistically, in primary, secondary and tertiary care systems covering both prevention and health promotion along with insurance cover.
Further, the staff of the health and wellness centre will prepare a health chart for those above 30 years in the area and regularly monitor their health and fitness during their home visits.
The centres will also provide free essential drugs and other diagnostic services for the beneficiaries, she informed.
Others who spoke on the occasion include District Medical and Health Officer, Tura Dr. Marwin R Sangma, while senior medical officers, representative of the locality, ASHAs, Anganwadi of the health centre were present at the function.
Meanwhile, as part of the celebration for completion of one year of launching of Ayushman Bharat Scheme – the Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana in the country, Ayushman Bharat Diwas was also observed at District Maternity and Child Hospital, Tura where Additional Deputy Commissioner, West Garo Hills, C N Sangma graced the occasion as chief guest and also presented the Awards of Recognition to Sangita Sangma, Paediatrics, Vince C M Momin, Gynaecologist and Nolita Hajong, Staff Nurse.
A similar programme along with screening of patients was also held at Tura Civil Hospital, Tura and District Tuberculosis Hospital, Tura.
