Free medical camp at Sohryngkham
SHILLONG: Young Women’s Christian Association (YWCA), Shillong organised a free medical camp at Mount Zion Secondary School, Sohryngkham on Friday. The programme was chaired by the Headmistress of the School, M Kharduit. The programme began with a prayer by B.Shabong, a member of the school’s Managing Committee followed by a speech from the President of YWCA, Mebaailang Kharkongor and a small introduction about the vision and activities of the association by the Adviser of YWCA, Amy S. Rangad. A number of students, parents and teachers had their check up done and medicines were also provided by Directorate of Health Services (DHS). The association has appreciated the support of A. War, Director of Health Services (MI), T. Wahlang, J. Marbaniang, L. Nongrum, D. Langrai, P. Suting, D. Suchen and Bansara Eye care centre and team in contributing to make the programme successful.

Additional day for border haat
AMPATI: The Deputy Commissioner, South West Garo Hills, through a communiqué, has notified that one more Haat day will be added to facilitate business at Kalaichar/Baliamari Border Haat. The official notification comes after the decision was made during the recent Joint Border Haat Management Committee meeting between India and Bangladesh at the Kalaichar/Baliamari haat premises on September 18. The added day will be every Monday in addition to the existing haat day on Wednesday. The haat will be operational from October 7 from 10 am to 3 pm.

Forum condoles death of village chief
SHILLONG: The Meghalaya State Co-ordination Committee of Coal Owners, Miners, Exporters, Transporters & Dealer’s Forum has condoled the untimely death of Elios Swer, the Dolloi of Rymbai Elaka, East Jaintia Hills, who drowned at the Prang river near the Borkhat village, East Jaintia Hills bordering Bangladesh on September 19 after his boat capsised with his close relatives, a nephew and brother-in-law on board. “We are saddened that a dedicated member of the forum passed away at the very primetime of his life. The forum conveys expresses profound condolences to the bereaved family members,” Sonny L Khyriem, the chairman of the committee said in a statement issued here.
