SHILLONG: The Syiem of Hima Jirang, Humberly Wahlang, has refuted the allegation of the Joint Action Committee (JAC) of Sohiong that the village of Nongwah Mawtamur was illegally handed over to Hima Jirang by Hima Sohiong.
Accompanied by the executive members of Hima Jirang, Wahlang told reporters on Friday that they have always maintained good relationship with the people of Nongwah Mawtamur and they had requested that their village should be included under Hima Jirang.
He informed that the residents of Nongwah Mawtamur had approached the then Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) MDC of Jirang, Artis Rani, the then KHADC EM in charge Elaka, KP Pangniang and also the sitting MDC of Jirang, Victor Ranee with their request.
In 2015 Nongwah Mawtamur officially became part of Hima Jirang and the agreement to that effect was signed in the presence of Pangniang, who had visited the village to understand the situation.
Asked if Hima Jirang would give back authority of the village to Hima Sohiong, Wahlang said the matter should be discussed at the right forum.
