Workshop on heritage

SHILLONG: A workshop on endangered living heritage on the topic ‘folk architecture, bamboo crafts and aesthetic’ was organised by the Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage, Meghalaya Chapter (INTACH) at Lady Keane College in the city on Saturday.
The workshop aimed to educate the youth about the different aspects of heritage conservation.
The keynote address was delivered by Madeline Y Tham, Convenor, INTACH and the session was presented by eminent architect Aiban Shngaiñ Mawkhroh, bamboo expert Tyngshaiñ Dewkhaid and Sharlene Das who spoke on aesthetics.
The workshop coordinator, Raphael Warjri, chaired the sessions and provided information on certain vernacular terms for various components of a Khasi house. The co-convener, Moushumi Dey, proposed the vote of thanks and conducted the closing ceremony and distribution of certificates to the student participants.
Altogether 54 students from Lady Keane HS School, Women’s College, Synod HS School, Seng Khasi HS School, Thomas Jones Synod College, Jowai and Ram Krishna Mission HS School, Sohra participated in the workshop.
The occasion was also graced by Geraldene Shabong, director, India Telecom who felicitated the participants with certificates.
