Man held for smuggling iphones, Rolex watches
New Delhi: A man was arrested at the Delhi airport upon his arrival from Hong Kong for allegedly smuggling high-end commercial goods such as iphones, Rolex watches and Adidas track-suits worth Rs 20 lakh, Customs officials said on Sunday. The passenger, who arrived from the Special Administrative Region of China at the Terminal-3 of the IGI Airport on Wednesday, was intercepted by officers of the Air Customs (Preventive). A detailed personal and baggage search resulted in the recovery of 27 I-phones, 330 watches of different brands like Rolex, Tommy Hilfiger, 20 track-suits of Adidas among other commercial goods having a total value of Rs 20,00,000. The goods have been seized and the person arrested under relevant provisions of the Customs Act. During questioning, he confessed to have smuggled commercial items worth Rs 85,00,000 in his past visits from October 2017 to September 2019. (PTI)


Japanese tourist dies in Manali
Shimla: An 80-year-old Japanese tourist has died in Himachal Pradesh’s Kullu district apparently from cardiac arrest, police said on Sunday. Misabo Sakurazawa was declared brought dead at a hospital in Manali on Friday, Kullu Superintendent of Police Gaurav Singh said. Prima facie, it seems she died due to cardiac arrest, he added. “Final opinion is yet to be obtained to ascertain the exact cause of death,” Singh said. No visible injury mark was seen on her body and postmortem was conducted at the Manali Civil Hospital. The autopsy report is awaited, he said. The SP said Misabo’s body was handed over to her husband Zennosuke Sakurazawa on Saturday. The couple had come to Manali about a month ago and were putting up at a home stay in Vashisht village, Singh said. PTI
Air display on IAF’s 87th anniv
New Delhi: The Indian Air Force will complete 87 glorious years on October 8 and the IAF has planned to mark the anniversary at its Hindan Base with a spectacular air display showcasing both vintage aircraft and modern fleet, officials said on Sunday. The IAF was founded on October 8, 1932 and the force has participated in several crucial wars and landmark missions. “The IAF will proudly celebrate its 87th anniversary. A scintillating air display by various aircraft will be the hallmark of the Air Force Day parade-cum-investiture ceremony at the Hindan Air Force Station in Ghaziabad,” a senior IAF official said. Rehearsals for the air display will commence from Tuesday, the IAF said. “The air display will commence with flag-bearing sky divers of the famous Akash Ganga team dropping out of an AN-32 aircraft in their colourful canopies. The flypast would include the vintage aircraft, modern transport aircraft and frontline fighter aircraft,” the official said. The ceremony will conclude with a spellbinding aerobatic display, he said. (PTI)
