Assam miscreants attack Meghalaya police

SHILLONG: Meghalaya Police will seek the assistance of Assam Police to apprehend a group of miscreants who recently attacked a team of the former in West Garo Hills.
The incident happened on September 24 around 2:30pm when a team of the state police was attacked by the residents of Pipulbari Dhanua village under Mankachar police station in Assam. The police team was on mobile patrol in the Pipulbari village area when they spotted a Mahindra pick-up (without number plate) parked in front of an illegal stone quarry at Do’bakkol Pipulbari village in West Garo Hills.
On seeing the police, the driver of the pick-up fled along towards Assam.
In the meantime, a woman identified as Monjori Begum started abusing the police personnel. The public of the area gathered around and challenged the police and threatened them with dire consequences.
Later, when the team left the place and was heading towards Garobadha, a mob from Pipulbari Dhanua village comprising Muktar Ali, Mukut Ali, Abdullah Sheikh and others armed with iron rods, daos and stones, attacked and obstructed the police on duty damaging their vehicle (ML-08B-2735) in the process.
