Awareness on social issues

WILLIAMNAGAR: The Special Task Force for Rongjeng Administrative Unit in collaboration with the United Christian Peace Forum (UCPF) organised a one-day awareness programme on social issues at the Rongjeng Government UP School playground, on Wednesday, in which local MLA Jim M Sangma was the chief guest.
Highlighting the provisions of the National Green Tribunal (NGT), Jim stressed on the need to protect the natural environment and urged the people to initiate steps to make the area plastic-free.
Speaking about the social issues, he urged the youth to refrain from creating nuisance in public places and to stay away from anti-social activities.
Speaking on the occasion, Dambo-Rongjeng BDO and the Executive Magistrate for the Special Task Force of the area, SN Sangma sought the cooperation of the general public in maintaining peace, keeping the public places safe and the natural environment clean and green.
District Agriculture Officer, Sosten N Marak spoke on the topic, ‘Clean and Green Rongjeng’, while, the Motor Vehicle Inspector of the District Transport Office spoke about the Motor Vehicles Act.
The Officer-in-Charge of Rongjeng Police Station spoke at length about Section 110 of the Meghalaya Police Act.
During the day-long programme, a cleaning drive was also conducted in the area in which a large number of people including the chief guest participated.
