Bid to make rural tourist spots clean

SHILLONG:  The Meghalaya Village Development & Promotion Tourism Cooperative Society Ltd. Shillong in collaboration with the office of the Registrar of Cooperative Societies, observed the Swachh Bharat on October 2.
Thirteen affiliated registered cooperative societies from Khasi Hills, Jaintia Hills and Ri Bhoi which undertook promotion and development of rural tourism participated in the cleaning drives of their respective tourist spots/travellers’ nests.
“Plastic Free Zone Area” notice boards were also put up for the caretakers, visitors and tourists to safeguard the hazardous littering of plastic bottles, bags and packets.
The objective of the cleaning drive is to motivate the community to keep their tourist spots clean and to permanently avoid using plastic water bottles, bags and packets. The community and students took part in the cleaning drive.
