Shanghai: World No 1 Novak Djokovic defeated American John Isner in straight sets 7-5, 6-3 here on Thursday to reach the quarterfinals of Shanghai Masters.
Djokovic, the defending champion, moves to a 9-2 head to head advantage over the American. Isner, who defeated Lucas Pouille of France 7-5, 6-3 to make the round of 16, last defeated Djokovic back in the summer of 2013.
Isner’s nine aces against Djokovic took him to 1,007 for the year, reaching the milestone for the sixth season overall. (PTI)
