NONGSTOIN: Mawshynrut, a village in West Khasi Hills is one of the least developed areas in the district. The Civil Sub-Division which was inaugurated on July 10, 2017 fails to function and no developmental work has been carried out since its inception.
Mawshynrut Civil Sub-Division has been ravaged due to lack of proper infrastructure, health facilities, education, water, electricity, et al.
A teacher from the area, Banrapkupar L Mawshillong said that the Mawshynrut administrative unit and civil sub-division has not seen any development whatsoever since its inauguration. He added that it does not have a full-fledged Sub-Divisional Officer and the ADC of Nongstoin, PD Sangma has to take charge and work is being done in Nongstoin.
“When all the work is being done in Nongstoin, what is the use of upgrading Mawshynrut to a Civil-Sub Division” Banrapkupar stated.
In terms of infrastructure, the civil sub-division has no building of its own and the office is currently functioning in a rented house near Riangdo market.
NGOs raise issues
NGOs like KSU and FKJGP have urged Chief Minister Conrad Sangma to look into the matter so that development can be seen in the area.
FKJGP recently raised the poor health condition of people in the area where only two doctors are providing to the needs of the public in Mawshynrut CHC.
The KSU also demanded from the present MDA government to upgrade Mawshynrut into a full-fledged Sub-Division, upgradation of PWD into a Division, upgradation of MeECL, PHE, water resource and the education department.
