MLA launches health programmes in SWKH

MAWKYRWAT: Mawkyrwat MLA and MIDC Chairman, Renikton L. Tongkhar launched the District Mental Health Programme and Rota Virus Programme, a vaccination campaign to prevent children against rotavirus infections, in a programme held at CHC Mawkyrwat, South West Khasi Hills on Thursday.
Speaking on the occasion, Tongkhar sought overall cooperation and support of the public in eradicating superstitious beliefs and taboos for proper implementation of health programmes within the district.
Moreover, the Deputy Commissioner of South West Khasi Hills, Isawanda Laloo informed that 2.2 lakh Indians in the age groups of 15 to 39 years have committed suicide and the highest rate of suicide is amongst the youth.
Others who spoke on the occasion included W.L. Narry, M&HO, Nodal Officer, DMHP, A. Lyngkhoi, Clinical Psychologist, DMHP and S.K Singh, Circle Inspector.
