‘2019 the year of education for SWKHD’

Mawkyrwat: Mawkyrwat MLA and MIDC Chairman Renikton L Tongkhar on Friday termed 2019 as the year of education for South West Khasi Hills District.
Tongkhar, who was speaking as the Chief Guest at a foundation stone laying ceremony for the Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya (JNV) at Mawkyrwat, expressed happiness over the district being blessed by three very good educational institutions in 2019.
Union Minister of Human Resources & Development Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank had on Friday laid the foundation stone for the JNV through a live telecast video conference in the presence of Minister of State for Human Resources & Development Sanjay Shamrao Dhotre.
Hoping that the institutions will provide quality education to the youths of the district, Tongkhar said, “In June, 2019, we have just laid the foundation stones
for the Eklavya Model Residential School (EMRS) which was funded by the Ministry of Tribal Affairs. In June, 2019, Jesuit Institution, which sets up global-class universities, has started a college in Umoid called St. Xavier College, and now we have just laid the foundation stone of the JNV. I am very happy. Therefore, while recalling this achievement in education, we can be seen that 2019 is the year of education for our district because we have got such big achievements.”
He also wished that more institutions will come up in the district hoping that a medical college will also be set up in this area in years to come.
