Shillong lad to represent state in IHCAE

SHILLONG: Sambor Surong, a resident of Jaiaw Pdeng, was selected to represent the state as a guest instructor at Indian Himalayan Center for Adventure & Eco Tourism (IHCAE) in South Sikkim for the 9th batch of students who appeared for their basic mountaineering course or BMC.
He was also the medical instructor during the 28-day course which began on September 14 and concluded on October 11.
It may be mentioned that Surong is the first mountaineering instructor from War Jaintia Thangbuli.
On October 5 at 10:45am, he and his team successfully made it to the peak of Mt Tenzing Khang which is 6,010 meters above sea level. It was a proud moment for Surong as 8 of his students were part of the team.
He was also the recipient of the ‘Keep the Himalayas clean’ award in 2010 and served as a physical instructor at IIT, Kanpur from 2013 to 2016.
