BSNL denies closure reports

Shillong: Telecom provider Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) on Monday dismissed media reports that BSNL services may close down.
“On the contrary, the Government of India recognises BSNL as a strategic PSU serving vital organisations like Defence and the Ministry of Finance,” the company said in a statement.
“BSNL is also serving all public and private banks in the country. Department of Telecommunication (DoT), Government of India values the inherent strength of BSNL as a telecom provider with huge infrastructure and reach including rural areas. Further, DoT is in the process of finalising a proposal for revival of BSNL,” said the statement.
“The news reports in question have unnecessarily tried to focus on the closure of BSNL despite the government assurance of revival of BSNL,” it added.
B Chandra Sehkar, CGMT, BSNL, NE-1 Circle informed that BSNL is committed to serve its customers and is making all efforts to upgrade the mobile network, Bharat fibre and has also launched new services like wings and satellite phones.
