SHILLONG: The All Jaintia Youth Welfare Organization (AJYWO) central body has pointed out that the Dorbar Shnong and clan organisations have a role to play in protecting the indigenous communities.
In a statement issued here, president of the organisation, MH Dkhar advised the different Dorbar Shnong in Jaintia Hills to be cautious and not issue residential certificates randomly.
The organisation has also urged clan organisations in Jaintia Hills to be vigilant about the misuse of clan names by outsiders.
He went on to add that the organisation has received information that outsiders have misused the clan names of Khasi-Pnar surnames in their electoral photo identity ard.
“It is only after they produce the residential certificate that they are able to obtain the EPIC. This will have an effect on the indigenous community and reduce the population of the community”, he said.
