SHILLONG: As part of The Shillong Times Platinum Jubilee celebrations, the 6th phase of the river clean-up programme under the name ‘Operation Clean-up’ will be held at 8:30am on Saturday at different phases of the River Umkaliar.
Amway will also be joining the clean-up drive along with the visually impaired students of Bethany Society.
The three-hour programme will include awareness creation and sensitisation among the households located along the River Umkaliar and Umkhrah.
The Shillong Times Platinum Jubilee Organising Committee invites all schools, colleges and individuals committed to a cleaner, greener Shillong to take part in the boble endeavour.
It also invites the residents of Nongmynsong, Umpling and Demseiniong to join hands with the team.
The meeting venue for all participants will be at the ground near Umkaliar River.
The organising committee has decided to conduct these drives on 2nd and 4th Saturdays in order to enable working people to be part of the exercise.
Meanwhile different groups that are a part of Operation Clean-up such as City Hut Dhaba, Jiva, Bamboo Hut, The Green Signal and MakeSomeoneSmile are also cleaning up public places on Sundays.
