Applications sought for CM’s youth development scheme
JOWAI: The Deputy Commissioner of West Jaintia Hills has invited applications from all registered organisations, clubs, educational institutions and self-help groups of the district for various programmes under the Chief Minister’s Youth Development scheme. Activities and programmes will include a tourism-cum-youth festival, awareness programmes, sport activities, workshops, seminars and an exposure trip within the state including a youth adventure programme. Applications should be submitted in plain paper filled with the particulars of the applicant along with detailed information about the preferred programme and required expenditure. The filled-up application forms are to reach the office of the DC, West Jaintia Hills on or before November 30. “The activities and programmes will cater to individuals between the ages of 14 to 25,” the DC said in a statement here on Friday.

Dead cattle thrown in river
Nongpoh: A dead cattle was thrown into Umran River in Ri Bhoi District by unknown persons despite strict measure and prohibition laid down by the Synroplang Wah Umran (SWU), an NGO which looks after the cleanliness of the river. The dead cattle, which emanated foul smell, was spotted when the members of SWU were out on their routine patrolling on Friday morning around 4 am. President of the SWU Novelty Syiemlieh, while talking to the mediapersons, had strongly condemned those persons involved in throwing the dead cattle in the river. He also informed that the SWU has been protecting the river for almost six years now, adding that “it is very unfortunate that some people are take advantages despite strict prohibition.” On the other hand, the NGO had also expressed its gratitude to the police department of Ri Bhoi District for providing crane and necessary aid in removing the cattle from the river.

USTM, CONCORD sign MOUs
SHILLONG: The University of Science and Technology, Meghalaya (USTM) and CONCORD Centre for Management, Guwahati, had signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) recently. The MOU was signed by Mahbubul Hoque, Chancellor of USTM-cum-Chairman, ERDF and Satya B. Borgohain, Founder and Director, CONCORD. The long-term agreement was signed by the two institutions to collaborate in the field of education, management development, knowledge management, global best practices and OD interventions. CONCORD is the centre for excellence in manpower and management development with the motto “Economy & Excellence in Management. CONCORD will facilitate USTM in establishing linkages with industries for continuous interaction, exchange of ideas, knowledge and experience-sharing for bringing in outside perspectives in industry-academia interface.”

AR commanders’ conference
SHILLONG: A two-day Annual Assam Rifles Commanders’ Conference kicked off at HQ, DGAR in Laitkor on Friday. The conference was attended by the Inspector Generals of the Force HQs, sector commanders and commandants along with other officials from the elite Assam Rifles Force. Chaired by Lt Gen Sukheep Sangwan, Sena Medal and Bar, DG Assam Rifles, the conference is expected to come up with solutions to challenges faced by the force along with issues related to the Indo-Myanmar Border Management while at the same time, maintaining the internal peace and security of the Northeastern states.
The conference will also deliberate on topics such as force modernisation including smart solution and leveraging technology for operational, administrative and various management aspects.

Move to stop school dropouts
SHILLONG: Rural Meghalaya, over the years, has witnessed drastic school children dropouts because of lack of financial assistance by the family. In a bid to help at least few children continue their education, MaplePine Bed and Breakfast along with the support of Hill Mount School, Seng Samla Saitsohpen, Seng Samla Gate, Neng Gate, Phlangshlan Pynursla, as well as Bamaeri Resort and Umta Village, Ri Bhoi District, is raising money. Till date, Rs. 1,50,000 has been raised through donations from families and friends. A ‘Race Series’ with prize money sponsored by MaplePine Bed and Breakfast and Cultural Pursuits Adventures will be organised by local organisations with an effort to raise money to tackle the contemporary dropout issues in the Rural Meghalaya. The race, which will be a one-mile race, will be held on December 14 at Hill Mount School Myria Lyngiong, the second race on December 28 at Saitsohpen, Sohra, the third race on January 18 at Pynursla, the fourth race at Bamaeri Resort Umta village, Ri Bhoi District, and the fifth race at MaplePine Farm Bed and Breakfast Lyngkien. The forms are available at Hotel Alpine Continental, Lake View Inn, Neo Sports Bara Bazar, Phermoon khonglam Store.
