SHILLONG: The Hynniewtrep Youth Council (HYC) Mawryngkneng Circle has opposed the sale of land to Border security force (BSF) at Tynring village, Khyrim Syiemship, East Khasi hills district.

In a statement issued here, general secretary of HYC Mawryngkneng circle, Rockesstar Warjri said the organization had a telephonic conversation with Sordar of Tynring who confirmed that a surreptitious move to sell land by private persons to BSF was underway.

In this connection, the president of the HYC Mawryngkneng circle, Robinson Nongrum demanded that the No Objection Certificate (NOC) should not be issued for the concerned activity in their petition to the Syiem of Hima Khyrim Syiemship, the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) Chief Executive Member (CEM), the Executive Member (EM) Land and also the Deputy Commissioner of East Khasi hills district.

Terming the people as opportunists, the HYC Mawryngkneng Circle said the individuals were not averse to selling the land to central forces even as they were aware of the difficulties faced by other villages that have the presence of such central forces.

The organization raised apprehension of encroachment of land and an insecure environment for women and children in areas where BSF camps are set up.

“The HYC Mawryngkneng Circle condemns and warns the agents or the private persons who intend to sell the land to central forces. At the same time, we appeal to members of the organization to be vigilant”, the press communiqué stated.
