SHILLONG: Chief Minister Conrad Sangma on Tuesday met Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Minority Affairs Minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi in Delhi and discussed a range of issues, including the contentious Citizenship (Amendment) Bill (CAB).
The chief minister apprised the Home minister of the need for proper consultation and engagement with all stakeholders on CAB.
According to reports, the Centre is likely to table CAB in Parliament next month.
Shah has agreed to meet and discuss the matter to take the views of different stakeholders and solicit views on the contentious subject and also told the state government to initiate steps to coordinate with the Centre in this regard.
Sangma also brought up matters related to amendments to the Sixth Schedule. The Home minister asked the state government to put forth the issues in writing.

(Contd from P-1) with Shah the political situation unfolding in Manipur and hoped for an early solution.
In his meeting with Rajnath Singh, Sangma dwelt on the different National Highway projects especially the Dawki-Shillong highway for expeditious acquisition of defence land and its transfer to PWD for their early completion.
The issue of road widening and traffic decongestion projects in Shillong which involve defence land was also discussed.
Among other topics that came up for discussion was the use of Garrison Ground for the celebration of Independence Day and Republic Day.
Sangma also discussed different proposals for minority affairs with Naqvi.
The chief minister submitted some proposals for multi-purpose halls and different infrastructure like stadia and educational institutes in different parts of the state.
The Minority Affairs department has agreed to not just have the minority affairs proposals for only a few districts but is ready to provide funds for all.
